Que Computers FPGA2 1.1 Ghz 100Mhz FSB CPU?

Post by cybermat »

Hi, I am new to this forum. I am also a proud owner of an Abit BP6 motherboard. :D It has served me well the last three years. I just ordered 2 PIII 1.1Ghz 100Mhz FSB from Que computers. When I was visiting their website, it showed that the PIII 1.1Ghz 100Mhz FSB is FPGA2? I thought they are all FPGA according to Intel. Can someone who bought these CPUS from them comment on if it's indeed a typo or there are two different chips. As well, I was wondering what is the success rate for you guys who are running dual 1.1Ghz on your BP6?

Thanks

If the chip is 256K cache & 100MHz it's almost certainly FCPGA-1
The 1st chip I saw from them on E-Bay was also listed wrongly.

Well I just got my third one today. My first two went in OK & are running stable now at 110MHz >1.2GHz OC'd. Both lock up instantly at 124MHz.

My first one has the strange problem that it won't boot if the FSB speed is set faster than 98MHz. After WinXP-Pro loads, it goes right up to 110MHz FSB using the BP6FSB.EXE tool from this site. It runs for days at 110MHz without any problem -just can't boot at that speed.
2nd P-III/1100E boots fine @110MHz. HPT366 may freak at the high speeds & I have replaced all mine with Promise/Maxtor ATA100 or 133.

I advise getting the EverCool 715 copper sink+70mm fan from nexfan.com - it's a fantastic, perfit fit cooler for the BP6 -$15.99.
Add the copper shim $2 & Arctic Silver-III and you can.t go wrong.

I wonder if your problem is from the motherboard cuz it seems strange that the CPU itself can't even run at its full speed? Have you tried running at 100Mhz with another chip with your first motherboard? I always run my bp6 at 110Mhz. I am using dual Celeron 300Mhz overclocked to 495Mhz. One of my chip can even run at 124Mhz and my setup can be run at this speed stable as I've tried it before even with the HPT366 enabled. I don't know if this means I am guarenteed to run at least 110Mhz FSB. Is there additional load to the setup running PIII 1.1 gig vs. running Celerons 300?
My concern is if it's even possible to run dual PIII 1.1 gig? Most of the success stories seem to stop at 800Mhz. I've never read a story on dual PIII 1.1 yet. Perhaps, some of you could comment on this.

Cheers

Now that you mention it, the Dual 366s that were replaced never went much faster than 505MHz before going flakey. Maybe the voltage cant hold stabile during the startup, but later it settles down.

Well I am all ready to try modifying my bp6 for the ultimate dual PIII setup. Then again, I don't even know if it's worth it. I mean an Acorp board is selling for $50 on ebay? Two NEO adapters will cost me the same amount and it's not guarenteed that it will work.

Yeah, I already got an ACORP Dual-RAID board myself for $40.

I'm not impressed with it at all! I guess I should download the BIOS update before I totally trash it. The OCing options are lame at best.

Also, if you are going to use Dual adapters for Tualatin series CPUs, a pair of them goes for $70 from Upgradeware!

At least it does do 133MHz.

Well sounds like you don't really like your Acorp board. Perhaps, I should get a VP6 instead. It's a shame though I really like my bp6. I have a question once you put the CPU into the NEO socket, is it very hard to get the CPU back out?

I saw from another thread that you are going to do the dual PIII upgrade. Is that still being executed?

Cheers

Well, I just finished removing my Cele2-1100MHz CPU from its Neo, so I could upgrade it to a P-III/1100E. I forced my fingernail in the crack & dragged it around the outside. Then I used a thin slot cover to pry the gap larger, working around the outside. After going around twice with prying slightly at each stop, the chip popped out.

As far as the ACORP goes, I still don't understand the OC setup at all.
The Docs indicate that you can establish in what range you want to OC - like 66-100, 100-133, 133-166 - and then you can do smaller speed increments in the range you pick. They also talk about Voltage Adj. too.

So far, all I could see was the range select choice in the BIOS & no voltage anything! So, I'm waiting 'till I install the latest BIOS to see what's next.

I got my 1st (2) of (3) by searching EBay from the home page =>"1100MHz" or "1.1GHz"

That's it no more specific. Then page thru the listed items & you will find the occasional P-III/1100E/256K/1.75V CPUs.

I was outbid on the auction & then got an E-mail from Que Computer that there were more. Paid $125 EA for (2) plus shipping.

Later, I won a bid at EBay for $99 for my 3rd P-III/1100E & it was also from Que Computers. They are listed in the Internet deals section. They are prompt with shipping & honest.
