New MOBO DOA?

Post by jaybird »

I just installed a "new" Gigabyte GA-6VTXD dual 370 mobo.

Upon bootup unless I get into setup right away the power supply shuts down in about 3 to 5 sec.

I have gotten as far as the 98SE boot disc but only once.

mobo identifies cpu, ram and drives(the one time I got it to go that far).

I have tried it with 1 cpu (1100E 100 FSB 1.75 V.), 2 cpu's, with and without vid card, with and without floppy and/or cd-rom, no memory, 1 stick, 2 sticks, 3 sticks, board outside of case, the same thing happens, shutdown almost every time.

PS is a Sparkle 300 watt unit.

With no cpu(s) no shutdown. These cpu's are good, have run both (one at a time) on my modified BP6.

I even reinstalled BP6 to verify PS good, no problem!

I acts like something is shutting down on high temp. The more often I try it the worse it gets until I can't even get video. Let it sit a while and it starts all over again.

Any ideas?

jaybird! You're not having much luck with computers these days?

Maybe the motherboard is touching the case somewhere and shorting out?

Your telling me!

I tried it outside of the case sitting on a static free bag, same problem.

"I hate these dam machines, I wish that I could sell it, it doesn't do what I want it ti do, only what I tell it!

Any thoughts on my BP6 PIII mod problem (sees both cpu's in bios when setting voltage but only shows one in bootup screen while doing ram countdown)?
