ok...

look at the capacitors on the motherboard (the tall cylinger green and black looking thingies)

do you see any of them that have brown stuff coming either out of the top or out the bottom?

if so... your board has suffered the capacitor death

it's fixable..

the symptoms you describe are very compliant to bad caps
