i also have a ps/2 mouse (dual mice)

Are you sure you fried the PS/2 port and not just the keyboard?

Yes, a USB keyboard should work.

If you can't get the USB KB to work in BIOS setup, and you have more than one BP6 (as I think you indicated), you could set up the BIOS options on the healthy BP6 and then swap the BIOS chips over. ;-)
